Derek Russ is the Director of Operations at RightOak Asset Management, where he oversees a wide range of responsibilities that support the firm’s people, processes, and long-term vision. He brings a strong background in leadership development and a deep commitment to helping individuals better understand their relationship with money and how that relationship shapes their lives.
Rooted in people-centered leadership, Derek has served as a Director of Sales Development, blending operational insight with a passion for mentorship. Throughout his career, he has focused on developing leaders who genuinely care about the people they serve, empowering teams to grow personally, professionally, and financially.
Derek holds a bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and a master’s degree from Michigan State University. While his education shaped his professional foundation, he credits his early experiences working on farms with instilling the values of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance.
A devoted husband and father of three, Derek also serves on several nonprofit boards as a way to give back and apply his experience across both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Outside of work, he’s an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, fishing, and dog training and feels most connected to his faith while spending time in nature.
